A Retreat is Within Your Reach
A time of quiet, called a retreat, is available to you. A retreat is about stepping away from the ordinary routine, for a time, to listen and attune to your truest, most authentic self.
"This sounds great, but I'm just too busy." Here's a paradox. To move forward, one must occasionally step back. To know your life has meaning and purpose, one must get away from the "roles" that prop up images that we and others have constructed for us. We need to rest, reflect, and reunite with a deep, inner well of refreshment.
"But I'm not Catholic." Retreats are about you, regardless of your religious beliefs. If you'd like to include religion, we can certainly help, but it's not a requirement. We have Spiritual Directors on staff if you'd like to meet with them for discussions of God's role within you.
"But I can't afford it." It's less than many think... $45/night single occupancy; Breakfast $5.75; Noon/main meal $8; Dinner $7; Spiritual Direction $35/session
For more information, or to book a personal retreat, please contact Barb at info@transformationscenter.org or 269-381-6290 ext. 310. We look forward to helping you "get away" soon. |

Art Gallery - Jeanette Aleo
Be sure to see Jeanette's work during your next visit to Transformations. It will be on display in the Art Gallery through the end of September. The Art Gallery is located in the ground floor Center Walk outside the Day, Merton and Romero conference rooms. | |
"I have a deep passion for writing icons. For an iconographer, every step of the process of iconography is centered upon a single truth. The essence of this truth is best expressed from the 14th century author of the Cloud of Unknowing:
An object to be thought about
But a personal presence
To be loved."
Jeanette has studied art at both the Kalamazoo Institute of Art and the Battle Creek Art Center. Her past work has been in area and state juried shows and print competitions and is a part of numerous collections. Her study of this liturgical art form has involved attending numerous retreats and studies with prominent iconographers.
The icons have a Christian orthodox origin with symbols, colors and images that have religious meanings. Their development has evolved over many centuries using techniques of multi layering of paint and gold leaf to give glowing color in a process called the "writing of the icon". The process is thought of as a prayerful experience in which a carefully crafted writing of a past religious icon is accomplished.
Jeanette hopes her icon writing, which has touched her spiritually, will provide the viewer of these icons a similar experience of prayerful presence and peace.
Editorial Note - Jeanette has participated in many Icon Retreats here at Transformations. If you'd like to attend the 2011 retreat please register now, this retreat fills quickly. The program is appropriate for beginners and experienced iconographers alike.
